Bismillah Multi Speciality Hospital

India2024Multi-storey multi-speciality hospital with OPD, IPD and emergency wing

A multi-storey multi-speciality hospital designed as a warm, residential-scaled healthcare landmark — a pitched timber-truss gable, jali-clad columns and a glowing double-height OPD lobby framing the BISMILLAH HOSPITAL identity.

The Brief

The brief was to design a neighbourhood multi-speciality hospital that felt approachable rather than institutional — accommodating OPD consultation, IPD patient rooms, diagnostics and a clearly marked ambulance / emergency edge, while presenting a strong, recognisable street identity by both day and night.

Design Response

FMDL composed the facade as a symmetrical chalet-like gable anchored by four tall jali-clad piers in patterned grey GRC. Between the piers, a full-height glazed OPD and waiting volume opens the building to the street and lets the illuminated red BISMILLAH HOSPITAL signage read clearly above the entrance canopy. Patient-room bays are framed in warm timber with deep windows and planter ledges, while the ground floor steps down to a sheltered porte-cochère with an integrated ambulance bay. A brick boundary wall with metal slat gates, a secondary backlit BISMILLAH HOSPITAL sign and landscaped planters complete the address.

Materials & Approach

Patterned grey GRC jali piers, exposed timber roof trusses with clay-tile pitched roof, warm wood cladding and window frames, full-height glazed OPD facade, exposed brickwork to the boundary wall and entry plinth, painted metal slat gates, red illuminated channel-letter BISMILLAH HOSPITAL signage with medical-cross identity, integrated soffit and step lighting, and vertical green walls.

Outcome

A multi-speciality hospital that reads as a warm, civic neighbour by day and a glowing healthcare beacon at night — clear way-finding for OPD, IPD and emergency arrivals, and a distinctive identity for the Bismillah Hospital brand.
