Child Care & Maternity Hospital — Dr. Pooja & Dr. Mithlesh

India2024Multi-storey child care, paediatric and maternity hospital

A multi-storey child care and maternity hospital designed for Dr. Pooja and Dr. Mithlesh — a playful, rainbow-lit clinical facade that reads as welcoming to children and reassuring to parents at the same time.

The Brief

The brief asked for a paediatric, neonatal and maternity hospital that felt distinctly child-friendly without losing clinical authority. The envelope had to carry the practice identity for Dr. Pooja and Dr. Mithlesh, signal a clear emergency / ambulance entry, and turn a tight urban corner into a recognisable healthcare address by both day and night.

Design Response

FMDL composed the street elevation as two contrasting volumes — a tall stone-clad signage tower carved with chevron light slits on one side, and a glowing perforated jali wall framed by a rainbow ribbon of coloured fins on the other. Patient-room bays are pulled out as deep coloured-glass windows that wash interiors in soft hues. The ground floor opens through a sheltered porte-cochère for OPD arrivals and a dedicated EMERGENCY edge for ambulance access, with a planted boundary, slatted timber gates and a green-wall buffer to the street.

Materials & Approach

Textured grey-stone signage wall with chevron LED reveals, coloured back-lit channel glazing to patient bays, GRC perforated jali screens, painted steel rainbow fins, slatted timber and metal gates, vertical green walls, integrated soffit and step lighting, and illuminated white channel-letter HOSPITAL signage with red medical-cross identity.

Outcome

A paediatric and maternity hospital that doctors, families and children can read instantly — clinical at the threshold, joyful on the skyline, and a clear neighbourhood landmark after dark.
