Boutique Hotel Jabalpur Ghats
A boutique hospitality proposal for Jabalpur Ghats that combines a warm brick massing language, tall arched openings, reflective water courts and landscape promenades into a serene destination experience.
The Brief
The project was envisioned as a calm hospitality destination connected to the spirit of the ghats rather than a generic hotel object. The brief called for a building that could feel rooted, timeless and ceremonial — offering guests a memorable arrival sequence, water-edge ambience and a strong architectural identity suited to Jabalpur.
Design Response
FMDL shaped the hotel as a composition of strong masonry volumes carved by tall recessed arches. Instead of relying on ornament, the design uses repetition, proportion and water to build atmosphere. Frontal reflection pools create a dignified approach, side promenades and landscaped courts soften the massing, and twilight lighting turns the building into a quiet landmark after sunset. The sequence of street edge, forecourt, water body and illuminated entry gives the project a distinctly ghat-like calm and ritual quality.
Materials & Approach
The visual palette centres on exposed warm-toned brick, smooth pale arched reveals, slender metal-framed glazing, stone-paved walkways, still reflection pools, clipped landscape and soft architectural lighting that washes the masonry planes in the evening.
Outcome
The proposal establishes Boutique Hotel Jabalpur Ghats as an intimate hospitality landmark — contemporary in planning but grounded in the atmosphere of masonry, water, procession and pause that suits its cultural setting.
