Dr Dharmendra Residence
A contemporary apartment interior for Dr Dharmendra and family — quiet, layered and crafted, balancing a devotional mandir niche, warm wood detailing and modern modular finishes across living, dining, kitchen and bedrooms.
The Brief
The brief was to transform a standard high-rise apartment into a warm, layered family home that gracefully blends Indian devotional sensibilities with contemporary minimalism — a calm sanctuary that doubles as an entertaining home for a busy medical professional.
Design Response
The design opens with a sculpted entry door framed by a fluted timber jamb and the etched residence identity (1607 / NIWAS). Inside, a custom mandir niche with a backlit Om mandala and lotus motifs anchors the foyer, screened by an open timber-and-metal shelving partition. The living spaces layer a primary grey sofa, a statement chartreuse curved sofa and a deep velvet accent armchair around a sculpted glass coffee table, framed by a moulded feature wall, fluted oak panelling and a brass globe chandelier. Bedrooms are restrained and tactile — fluted wardrobe shutters, tropical wallpaper niches and floating study counters with integrated lighting.
Materials & Approach
Natural oak fluted panelling, smoked walnut veneer, matte beige laminate cabinetry with brushed brass inlays, calacatta-look marble flooring, fluted glass, brushed brass profiles, sculpted ribbed upholstery, hand-knotted geometric rugs, statement glass globe chandeliers and concealed cove lighting throughout.
Outcome
A textured, dignified apartment interior where every room has its own quiet personality — devotional, social, restful — held together by a consistent palette of warm woods, soft greys and brushed brass. Delivered turnkey across architecture, joinery, lighting and styling.
